TUNIS, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- The revenues from exporting Tunisian dates have grown by 22 percent in the current season from the 2016-2017 season, the Tunisian Ministry of Agriculture announced Thursday.

The total revenues from dates exports in Tunisia in the 2017-2018 season lasting from last October to February reached 331.8 million dinars (135.7 million U.S. dollars), compared to 271.7 million dinars during the 2016-2017 season.

A total of 54,519 tons of dates were exported in the 2017-2018 season, an increase of 6 percent from the 2016-2017 season.

The Ministry of Agriculture said this increase is mainly due to the remarkable increase in the exports of organic dates which grew from 5,236 tons to 6,876 tons, or up by 30.6 percent.

The most exported and marketed product after olive oil, Tunisian dates are very popular in the Maghreb region which imported 11,931 tons, followed by Italy, 5,477 tons, and Indonesia, France and Spain, each 4,000 tons.
