WASHINGTON, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen will head a presidential delegation to the Winter Paralympic Games in PyeongChang, South Korea, next month, the White House said on Tuesday.

Nielsen will lead the delegation to attend the opening ceremony and events of the games that will begin on March 9, according to a White House statement.

Other members of the delegation will be announced in the coming days.

U.S. President Donald Trump has appointed Vice President Mike Pence and his daughter Ivanka to head U.S. presidential delegations to attend the opening and closing ceremonies of the Winter Olympics respectively in February.

Neither of the two appointees have ever made to have any direct engagements with the government delegations of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, while Pyongyang and Seoul have embarked on an apparent rapprochement using the games as an opportunity.
