Belarus to provide agriculture equipment to Zimbabwe

HARARE, March 1 (Xinhua) -- The Belarus government said Thursday it will provide Zimbabwe with agriculture equipment worth 43 million U.S. dollars to help the southern African country boost its agricultural production.

Belarus' chief of presidential affairs, Victor Sheiman, made the statement after meeting President Emmerson Mnangagwa in Harare, Zimbabwe's state-run news agency New Ziana reported.

"We will sign contracts for agriculture worth 43 million dollars to supply agriculture equipment, including tractors and other agriculture equipment, to Zimbabwe.

"Besides the agricultural equipment, we will also sign a contract for forestry machinery that is going to be used in light industries here in Zimbabwe," he said. "It is around 15 million dollars, also under the same facility."

Sheiman said Belarus is committed to strengthening cooperation with Zimbabwe in the energy, agriculture, transport and logistics sectors.

After signing the agreements, Belarus will send technical experts to Zimbabwe to begin work on implementing the various deals, Sheiman said.
