Namibia welcomes negotiations with Russia on signing MOU regarding peaceful nuclear energy use

WINDHOEK, March 6 (Xinhua) -- Namibia having lifted its moratorium on uranium looks forward to the commencement of the implementation of joint projects in exploration, mining and processing of uranium ore in the country.

Namibia's Deputy Prime Minister and International Relations Minister, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, made these remarks on the occasion of the official visit by Russia's Foreign Affairs Minister, Sergey Lavrov, on Tuesday in Windhoek.

The Russian delegation is in the country on a 2-day visit to exchange views on a wide range of bilateral and international issues of mutual interest. The visit will conclude on Wednesday.

Nandi-Ndaitwah in her remarks thanked Russia for supporting Namibia's application to the Nuclear Suppliers Group and looks forward to the continued support as Namibia positions itself to optimize benefits from this natural endowment.

"In this context, we welcome the ongoing negotiations between Namibia and Russia to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy," she added.
