NAY PYI TAW, March 28 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's new president U Win Myint, 67, was born in Nyaung Chaung Village, Danubyu, Ayeyawaddy region of Myanmar, on Nov. 8, 1951.

He was graduated from the Rangoon Arts and Science University with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Geology.

After graduation, U Win Myint became a High Court senior lawyer in 1981 and then a lawyer of the Supreme Court.

In 1985, he became a High Court advocate.

He won a parliamentary seat to the House of Representatives (Lower House) in Pathein constituency in 2012 by-election, representing the National League for Democracy (NLD) and became secretary of the House's Committee for Rule of Law, Peace and Tranquility, chaired by Aung San Suu Kyi.

In the 2015 general election, he was elected again as a representative from Tammwe township constituency to the same House, serving as Speaker of the House of Representatives from 2016 to March 21, 2018.

He resigned as the House's speaker but was elected by the House as vice president and nominated as a candidate to compete in the presidential run following U Htin Kyaw's resignation. He was succeeded by his deputy U T Khun Myat.

U Win Myint is a member of the Central Executive Committee of the NLD.

He was married with one daughter.
