RABAT, May 28 (Xinhua) -- The Moroccan and U.S. militaries on Monday vowed to further cement their cooperation.

The pledge was made at a meeting between Fathallah El Ouarrak, the inspector general of Morocco's army, and Robert B. Neller, commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps, who is on a working visit to Morocco.

The two generals discussed several issues of common interest and means to promote interoperability between the two armed forces, the Moroccan Royal Armed Forces said in a statement.

They lauded the positive results of the bilateral military cooperation, notably the organization of combined exercises such as the yearly "African Lion" exercise held last month, participation in different trainings, reciprocal support, and exchange of visits, the statement said.

They also examined the means to further develop this cooperation to improve interoperability and improve coherence and complementarity between the two armies via expertize sharing, it said.

While affirming their adherence to the principles and goals of the U.S.-Moroccan military cooperation, the two officers agreed to enhance the bilateral ties in the same spirit of friendship and shared trust, it added.
