MOSCOW, May 12 (Xinhua) -- Russia successfully test-launched its latest Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) on Tuesday, TASS news agency reported.
The Sarmat ICBM can reliably strike assigned targets and perform strategic deterrence missions, significantly enhancing Russia's combat capabilities, TASS further reported, citing Commander of Russia's Strategic Missile Forces Sergei Karakayev.
Noting that Russia has been developing unique, advanced strategic systems to penetrate all missile defense systems, Russian President Vladimir Putin said the Sarmat is the world's most powerful ICBM system, capable of breaching all current and prospective missile defense networks.
The Sarmat boasts a range of over 35,000 km, and the warhead yield is more than four times greater than any Western equivalent, Putin said, noting that it will be deployed by the end of 2026. ■
