TOKYO, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- The euro retreated against both the yen and the U.S. dollar on Friday in Tokyo after pro-independence parties in Catalonia won a narrow advantage in a regional election in Spain.

At 5 p.m., the euro fetched 1.1852-1853 dollars and 134.40-44 yen against 1.1869-1879 dollars and 134.50-60 yen in New York and 1.1872-1873 dollars and 134.83-87 yen in Tokyo at 5 p.m. Thursday.

The dollar, meanwhile, was quoted at 113.40-41 yen compared with 113.28-38 yen in New York and 113.57-59 yen in Tokyo late Thursday afternoon. It moved between 113.27 yen and 113.44 yen during the day.
