MANILA, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- A total of 16 people were killed in the tail-end of a cold front affecting the Philippines recently, a government official said on Tuesday.

Parts of the Philippines have been experiencing cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms since Wednesday due to the tail end of a cold front which caused floods and landslides.

In a press briefing on Tuesday, Romina Marasigan, spokesperson of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), said the agency has recorded 12 landslides and one flash flood incidents from the whole country.

Marasigan said Tacloban City in the central Philippines and Compostela Valley in the southern part of the country registered four deaths each. Three people died in Camarines Norte in the northern Philippines, two each in Lanao del Norte in the southern Philippines and Northern Samar in the central part of the country, and one killed in Camarines Sur from the northern Philippines.

Most of the fatalities perished due to landslides and drowning, said Marasigan.
