RIO DE JANEIRO, Jun. 19 (Xinhua) -- The Brazilian Ministry of Tourism issued on Tuesday an official statement to condemn the harassment of Russian women by Brazilian visitors during the FIFA World Cup.

Videos on social networks taken and published by some Brazilian visitors to the ongoing 2018 Russia FIFA World Cup games showed men approached Russian women and tricked them into repeating phrases in Portuguese with sexist and racist content.

"Sexism and misogyny are not acceptable under any circumstances, much less in an event like the World Cup," the tourism ministry said.

Meanwhile, the ministry denied that any of the Brazilian men involved is its employee who used government money to pay for the Russian trip.

Three of the Brazilian men in the video have reportedly been identified, with preliminary information indicating them as a former tourism official from a small town, a police officer and a lawyer.

The Brazilian embassy in Russia has received both reports and messages of disapproval from Brazilian nationals against the embarrassing video.

So far, the Russian side has made no official accusation against the Brazilian men involved.
