SHENYANG/HARBIN, July 26 (Xinhua) -- Ampil, the 10th typhoon this year, has brought rainstorms to northeastern Chinese provinces, forcing the relocation of thousands of people and disrupting rail traffic, local authorities said Thursday.

In Liaoning Province, as of 7 a.m. Thursday, 89 towns had recorded more than 100 mm of rain, according to the provincial flood control and drought prevention headquarters.

Downpours starting on Tuesday forced nearly 7,200 people to relocate from unsafe places and damaged nearly 270 hectares of crops.

In Heilongjiang Province, more than 10 trains were cancelled due to landslides caused by torrential rains. Over 1,100 personnel were dispatched from local railway administrations to repair the broken railways.

Typhoon Ampil made landfall on the island of Chongming off Shanghai on Sunday.
