JAKARTA, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- Four basketball teams will compete in the Asian student basketball championship scheduled to be held in Indonesia, a senior government official announced here on Friday.

The young basketball players from China, China's Hong Kong, Thailand and Indonesia will start on Friday in Yogyakarta province, said Washington Galingging, senior official at the Indonesian youth and sport ministry.

The sport event will be held in the Among Rogo sport stadium and will end on September 14, the official said.

"The teams from China, China's Hong Kong and Thailand have already completed their administrative matters, ensuring their participation," said Washington.

Only basketball players aged 18 or below are allowed to play in the championship, which is different from the previous competition, the ASEAN School Games held in June in Selangor, Malaysia this year.

The official also said that the event aims to promote tourism in the province.
