PARIS, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- French shares edged up on Wednesday, with the benchmark Paris CAC 40 up 0.56 percent, or 29.95 points, to close at 5,393.74 points.

A total of 25 of the 40 selected large companies gained in the day.

Valeo, a French multinational automotive supplier, advanced 4.28 percent. French automotive manufacturer Peugeot gained 3.08 percent. European IT services corporation Atos rose 2.47 percent.

French multinational electric utility company Engie S.A. edged down 2.09 percent, the top loser of the blue chips. French transnational company specialized in water management, waste management, transport and energy services Veolia Environment lost 1.46 percent.
