DUBAI, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan sent on Saturday a congratulation message to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on the 45th anniversary of Egypt's victory in the October War.

The October War, also known as the 1973 Arab-Israeli War, was fought by the coalition of Arab states led by Egypt and its then ally Syria against Israel from Oct. 6 to 25, 1973.

While Egypt regained the Sinai Peninsula through post-war negotiations and the Camp David peace treaty of 1979 with Israel, the Syrian Golan Heights remain under Israeli occupation until today.

The UAE has been supporting Sisi since the Egyptian military ousted former President Mohamed Morsi in July 2013.
