TOKYO, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks extended gains Wednesday morning as Wall Street's overnight rise on upbeat earnings reports and tech-issues' advance bolstered investor sentiment here.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 358.49 points, or 1.59 percent, from Tuesday to 22,907.73.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 25.88 points, or 1.53 percent, at 1,713.79.

Machinery, securities, and real estate-oriented issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break.
