RIO DE JANEIRO, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- Brazil's President Michel Temer approved on Monday a major pay rise for Supreme Court judges.

The judges' monthly wages will rise from 33,700 reals (about 8,500 U.S. dollars) to 39,200 reals (about 10,000 U.S. dollars).

Even though the Supreme Court claims the raise will be paid with its own resources, there is a significant concern about the raise's effect in public accounts.

The pay rise for Supreme Court judges could lead to a salary hike of the entire Judiciary, which will increase the government's budget deficit.

The impact in public accounts is estimated at a minimum of 4 billion reals (about 1 billion U.S. dollars), which is likely to create some serious financial problems for the next government. The new government is scheduled to take office in January.
