SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- Snowfall in upper reaches and plains Saturday affected air and surface traffic in Indian-controlled Kashmir, thereby disrupting normal life, officials said.

The snowfall began Friday evening and was going on until Saturday morning.

Officials at airport in Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir, said air traffic got disrupted due to poor visibility and continuous snowfall.

"Due to uninterrupted snowfall and bad weather conditions today the morning flights were cancelled," said a senior official posted at Srinagar airport. "Though we cleared the runway but poor visibility hampered the operations."

The cancellation of flights has affected many passengers.

Meanwhile, accumulation of snow at Jawahar tunnel has led to closure of 294 km Srinagar-Jammu highway.

Authorities in the wake of fresh snowfall have issued avalanche warning.

People in the snowbound areas were urged to take precautions and not to venture on steep slopes during the next 24 hours.

The meteorological officials have predicted more snow for next 24 hours.
